 Super easy rock hunt!
« Thread Started on Oct 9, 2009, 7:51pm »

Howdy folks, Well, this week my wife talked me into starting up a landscaping project which involved me getting a load of decorative rock from a local rockyard. Was very pleased to hear they get their gravel from La Grange, Texas which is pretty famous for cool pet wood and other quartz gems. Had it dumped in my yard a couple of days ago and have been having a rock hunt right in my yard as I sort out rocks for the wife's gardens. Here are just a few of my finds so far and I've barely scratched the surface of the pile.

First, the pile:

99% quartz material , mostly flint

Neat flint nodules with nice color and orbs

I guess flint but very similar to moss agate

Pet wood, the largest more than 10 pounds and a foot long

MY coolest find right off the top of the pile, a big piece of palm onion, the root ball where roots grade into palm fiber:

Close shot of the tip of the hunk which shows the pattern of roots/fiber

Fantastic, how you were able to find in that gravel pile stuf that others would wear a pair of shoes for.

Rocks choose their owners, but they allow us the joy of believing to the contrary!
